Public Transportation

The Athens City Pass as Public Transport Ticket

The Athens City Pass can optionally be used as a ticket for public transport. With it, you can travel unlimited within the city area by metro (lines 1-3), buses (incl. trolleybus), tram as well as suburban train (Proastiakos). Not included are journeys from/to the airport or far into the surrounding area. Children under 6 years travel free. Depending on the pass duration, you receive a 24-hour ticket (for 1 day) or a 5-day ticket (for 2-6 days), each valid from first validation for unlimited journeys.

Practical Usage

After purchase, you receive a voucher for the public transport ticket by email. Ticket pickup: Exchange the voucher in Athens at a central ticket counter for the physical ticket (Attention: pickup only possible Mon-Fri!). Validate ticket: Activate the ticket on first use by holding it to the blue reader at the metro entrance (barrier) or on the bus/tram. The validity period starts from then. Travel & Inspection: Within the validity period, you can travel and transfer as often as you like. Hold the ticket to the reader device with each boarding so it's recognized as valid. During inspections, simply show the ticket - staff will scan it for verification.

Timetables and Public Transport App

Most transport services run from 5:00 AM to midnight, on Fridays and Saturdays the metros (lines 2 and 3) operate until approximately 2:00 AM. Some night buses run continuously. For current connections, use the official app OASA Telematics (free for Android and iOS). The app offers route planning and shows live departure times for all lines.
